Rallies are held on the 1st Wednesday, 2nd Saturday and 4th Sunday of the month.
All rallies are made up of 1 hour lessons which have a maximum of 4 riders, lessons are booked prior to the rally online through Event Secretary and the booking process is supported by our rally co-ordinator.

Book your flat lesson at the level you are capable of riding at, but also what you think is appropriate for your combination. Level 5 is considered for less experienced combinations. A rider training a young/green horse, should not enter this level. If you book a lesson purely for the time and completely ignore what Level it is, you will be moved or offered a refund.
XC and SJ lessons are considered differently. The rider and horse combination must be able to negotiate the fences safely and with control. You should only be jumping at your appropriate level. Are you at the beginning stage, consolidating stage or established stage? Enter height appropriate.
If you are are not level assessed and may be unsure what level you should be riding at, Marilyn Smithett is available to watch you ride and let you know your appropriate level. If you do want to be formally assessed for competitions, our level assessor is Marilyn Smithett. Her contact details can be found here
Wednesday rallies are dressage and cross country only, commencing at 10 am with the last lesson time depending on numbers attending.
Weekend rallies provide both dressage and jumping lessons, commencing at 9am (or 10am depending on numbers) with a lunch break at 12pm, then more lessons after lunch at 12.30pm if we have enough riders wanting lessons.
Typically, two instructors are booked for weekend lessons. Weekend rallies alternate between show jumping and cross-country lessons. Booking at least a week in advance will secure your rally spot.
To attend a rally, you must book and pre pay online. We suggest you do this a week in advance as at this point any vacancies are opened up to guest riders from other HRCAV clubs.
As of September 2019 instructor fees across all of our instructors have increased therefore our rallies for members is now $25 per lesson either flat or jumping. Guests from other HRCAV clubs pay $35 per lesson and can only attend 6 rallies in a financial year.
Clinics are run every couple of months and the typical structure of these clinics are 2 riders per 1 hour lesson, cost of lesson dependent on cost of instructor. These clinics are advertised and booked in Event Secretary with our typical rally format.
Booking for poles and show jumping requires you to attend the set up of the equipment, or the pack up of the equipment depending on what time your lesson falls. The Rally Officers are there to open shed and bring out equipment to arenas and to assist those riding in show jumping or poles to set up.
The Rally Officer(s) is not to do this all themselves. No set up or pack up help, no ride.
Cancellation Policy
Cancellations within 3 days prior to the rally date require a medical or veterinary certificate to receive a partial refund. A $5 administration fee is retained for these types of cancellations due to the costs incurred from our online booking service.
If a member books and cancels (and has no medical or veterinary certificate) within 3 days of rally and their spot is not filled the fee will be100%.
This is to maintain the integrity of our booking service so members do not book and then wait to see what the weather will be, and cancel 7 days prior. Instructors are pre-booked at least a month in advance and often months in advance.
The expenses associated to running rallies are covered by rally attendance. Full lessons
are ‘break-even’ for the cost of our instructors and we have to pay for the time we book them regardless of cancellations.
Regardless of whether the cancelled spot has been filled or not, the associated fee is applicable.
If rallies are cancelled for any reason such as drastic weather, full refunds apply and the club will incur the associated online booking expenses.
